Soft Resistance – A World Without a Hero Where the Wire Calls the Shots

Essay by Erik Wong in Mister Motely translated from Dutch into English.

October 24, 2024

'People, not heroes, should populate stories.' Erik Wong spoke to artist LJ Roberts about working with textiles in connection with the exhibition Unravel at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. In Soft Resistance, he investigates narrative thinking and makes a whirling argument for the in-between space. 'Roberts embraces the ambivalent, the non-binary, and in doing so cherishes an in-between space. A space that they have made for themselves, fought for and that – especially in these polarized, binary times – must be defended.'
